Stop That! It's Stupid: "There ain't nobody here but we chickens!"

Dear Conrad
I saw you on the television news last night talking about your company's takeover bid for the big chicken feed concern in Saskatchewan. Sounds like a good move to me, but I don't pretend to know the chicken business. You know what's best for you and your company.
Forgive me for pointing out something that I do know, though.
In your comments (no doubt you were nervous in front of the cameras and this is why you misspoke yourself) you said:

"That's for the government regulators to sort out, not we entrepreneurs."

Now that it's laid before you in black and white, I suppose you see the problem, eh?
Damned pronouns! More trouble than they're worth.

Try a few of these on and you'll see the problem right away.

Just shoot I!
I lost he in the crowd .

All right, too obvious.

In Films and Books: The Decline and Fall of Martial Arts Films and the Rise of the Action Blockbuster Movie (with trailers)

Martial Arts Series: Comparing martial arts films of the 1970s to the action blockbusters of 2009/10

By Derek Armstrong, Films and Books Correspondent

Red Cliff, Ip Man and True Legend are already iconic of the early 21st century “martial arts films”—although many can argue they are more action spectacle than true martial arts films.  The 1970s, on the other hand, didn’t rely on eye-candy effects and were defined more by the true grit of its martial arts actors: Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, the Five Venoms, Tomisaburo Wakayama, Jimmy Wong, and other real fighters trained in genuine martial arts.

Martial Arts Becomes Mainstream But Evolves Into Spectacle

Cult classics such as Enter the Dragon helped change Hollywood. Its growing popularity forced filmmakers to adopt martial arts into the formula of the “action flick.” Through the eighties and nineties, spectacle thrillers

EDI WEEKLY: Return of the Supersonic Commercial Jet, Without the Boom

Since the demise of the Concorde in 2003, only fighter jet crews and astronauts have had the pleasure of supersonic flight. The Russians are currently testing a new fifth generation PAK-FA T-50 supersonic stealth fighter that will be in direct competition with the world's only current fifth generation supersonic jet, the new US F-22 Raptor. Even India is on the supersonic bandwagon, participating with Russia in the development of the new jet.

But commercial aviation remains subsonic.

This could change soon.

Aerion Supersonic Business Jet concept

Aerion Corporation of Nevada, which "was formed for the purpose of developing and commercializing a fundamental breakthrough in supersonic transportation," has set 2015 as the year it will launch its new Supersonic Business Jet (SSBJ). The company has already taken orders worth $4 billion for the $80 million jet—one of the first orders came from the ruler of Dubai in 2007—but has not yet made a decision on a manufacturing partner. Once that is done, it will enter a pre-launch phase with the OEM to confirm the Aerion SSBJ performance, costs and market. Thereafter a five-year program is planned so that the Aerion SSBJ could be flying in 2013 and certified by late 2015.

Treadmill Desk Feature: ADVANCE MAGAZINE. Work Off the Pounds by Walking All Day at Your Desk.

Dr. James Levine’s Concept of a Treadmill Workstation May Not be a Patent-Pending Money Miracle, But the Concept Pays Off for Companies Seeking Productivity.
 Correspondent Derek Armstrong

Dr. James Levine of the Mayo Clinic invented the "Treadmill Desk” to help the one third of Americans estimated to be obese. In various studies, obesity can drive health care costs up by as much as $100 billion per year. Walking away the pounds only makes sense.

“If sitting is to blame,” Dr. Levine said, “then standing has to be the solution.” Dr. Levine proposed that a slow walk – while at work on a “standing/ walking desk” – at no more than 1 mph could result in 40 pounds or more in weight loss per year, together with substantial health and cardiovascular fitness benefits. The upside also included increased productivity, lowered depression and less downtime for employees.

ADVANCE MAGAZINE: H1N1 Vaccine Controversy

With the flu season now upon us, controversy swirls around the H1N1 vaccination, with half the population or more in some countries, including health care professionals, refusing to take it, and many questioning its safety, its efficacy and the need for it. In the United States, government forecasts of how much vaccine would be available for the public at this time have proven massively inaccurate, causing many to doubt the government's ability to handle an epidemic, should one develop. A great deal of misinformation about who should get the vaccine and what the side effects could be adds to the general sense of confusion. But the flu is here and it's not going away anytime soon.

In Canada, Saskatchewan received its first supplies today, just as a new outbreak of the flu hit the southeastern part of the province. Twenty people in the Sun Country Health Region are confirmed to have the swine flu virus. So far, five people have died from the virus in Saskatchewan.

In Europe the flu is spreading and claiming more fatalities, with the global death toll now approaching 5,000. Most of these fatalities (3,539) have been in the Americas, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), but as winter approaches in the North, countries like the Netherlands are seeing greater numbers of people infected with the flu virus.

Britain's new H1N1 cases shot from 27,000 to 53,000 in just a week, making it the worst-hit country in Europe... READ MORE>>

ADVANCE MAGAZINE FEATURE: Fur Council Fights Negative Image

In a move sure to enrage anti-fur groups, the Fur Council of Canada is seeking to sway public opinion by rebranding itself with a new "Vision of Fur for an Eco-Conscious World," summed up in the slogan "Fur is Green." They admit that the new approach is "provocative," and the content at the Fur is Green web site unapologetically boosts fur as a responsible and environmentally sound fashion choice.

The Fur is Green web site defines their position as follows:

We want people to know that fur is an excellent choice if you care about nature -- because fur is a natural, renewable resource. The Canadian fur trade is very well regulated to ensure animal welfare. The furs we use are abundant; never from endangered species. And fur apparel is remarkably long wearing. This is more eco-logical than today’s disturbing trend to “cheap”, disposable fashion – like the tons of unwanted materials (80% non-biodegradable synthetics!) that ends up in landfills. Those who think that synthetics can replace fur should also know that most synthetics are made from petroleum – a non-renewable resource – and their production and disposal can pose environmental problems.

The purpose of the site is to "present another side of the fur story" and correct... READ MORE>>

ADVANCE MAGAZINE: Acid Diet May be Killing You

PH Imbalance May Be a Common Cause of Many of Today’s Diseases (Full story here>>)

By Correspondent Derek Armstrong, Advance Magazine

NOTE: Nothing in this article is intended to replace advice of a physician or care-giver. Please always consult professionals before making changes in diets.

Is obesity the number one cause of most of today’s ills? Are meat-eaters more at risk for cancer? Nutrutional imbalances a number one killer? Or is it our genetic pre-disposition.

Perhaps none of the above. Underlying many of the above questions is one unifying theme, increasingly recognized by both traditional medical practitioners and alternative health care-givers. Research seems to anecdotally—and in some cases empirically—support the most popular “cause” theory in health care. Imbalance of body PH was first identified in 1933 by a New York doctor named William Howard Hay, who published a ground-breaking book, A New Health Era in which he maintained that all disease is caused by autotoxication (or "self-poisoning") due to acid accumulation in the body.
